Free residential breaks in the country for carers Carers' Day retreats 'Carers Breaks' offers adult carers a complete ’break’ from their normal caring role. A chance to find peace and calm in a tranquil setting. Carers are also given opportunities to learn skills that will help sustain their caring role into the future. As well as getting away to a beautiful country setting, carers are helped to understand the dynamics of stress in their caring situation and offered simple methods drawn from yoga, tai chi, and meditation to promote a greater sense of well-being and ease. Massage is commonly made available to assist an experience of calm. These breaks are funded by local government and other agencies and so are ‘free’ of charge to the carers. Carers Day RetreatsThis is an initiative of the Brighton Buddhist Centre
funded by Brighton & Hove Council Council for carers from the City.
The aims of the Carers Days include -
There will be time to talk to other carers if you wish, and there are several short sessions looking at effective techniques to help create more calm in our life, especially when things get tough. All sessions are invitational, nothing is compulsory! Learning to meditate can help you manage difficult and stressful times in your life as a carer. The day includes a delicious buffet lunch. These day retreats are funded by Brighton & Hove
Council and are free to carers. You do need to have completed an assessment
with B&H Social Care Access Point for 2011 - you can do this over
the phone on 01273 295555 and it should only take 15 minutes or so. They
will provide you with a carers card which entitles you to attend two days
and other supportive services on offer. Dates for 2011 - all days run 10am - 5pm This group has the same aims as the Carers Day Retreats in that it gives you a chance to try out activities like yoga, relaxation and meditation at the Brighton Buddhist Centre. It also simply helps carers to meet and share together. It is fun and informative as well as restorative. There is no charge to carers. Meetings at the Centre on Thursday
afternoons from 2.00 to 3.30 every fortnight. The next meetings for 2011
are: If you live outside Brighton & Hove please contact Taravajra or Karunavira at Mindful Health Ltd to discuss the possibility of setting up a break in your area. Many carers have enthused about the vegetarian food
served on the Breaks so we are developing a recipe page on this site.

the sun-dried tomato chutney and lasagna. |
