Free residential breaks in the country for carers

'Carers Breaks' offers adult carers a complete ’break’ from their normal caring role. A chance to find peace and calm in a tranquil setting. Carers are also given opportunities to learn skills that will help sustain their caring role into the future. As well as getting away to a beautiful country setting, carers are helped to understand the dynamics of stress in their caring situation and offered simple methods drawn from yoga, tai chi, and meditation to promote a greater sense of well-being and ease. Massage is commonly made available to assist an experience of calm.

These breaks are funded by local government and other agencies and so are ‘free’ of charge to the carers. While this new kind of break for carers is the initiative of a team based at the Buddhist Centre in Brighton it has no religious agenda.

"I’d strongly recommend (it) to other carers. You don’t have to be interested in Buddhism or (be) religious in any way. Everyone is made to feel so welcome. The teachers are so helpful and encouraging."
